About the Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom: \Small Cardamom Replanting/New Planting: Karnataka (Ha.) and other States Scheme

Under the “Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion & Quality Improvement in Spices and Research and Development of Cardamom” implemented by the Spices Board India during the 15th Finance Commission period (2021–22 to 2025–26), assistance is provided for Small Cardamom Replanting/New Planting in Karnataka and other states to motivate growers to improve production and productivity through systematic replanting of diseased, old, and senile plantations, as well as to promote area expansion, in accordance with the modalities and scheme guidelines approved by the Competent Authority.

Benefits

  1. 33.33% of cost of cultivation of subject to a maximum of ₹75,000/- per Ha for General Category and 75% of cost of cultivation ₹1,68,000/- per Ha for SC/ST payable in two annual installments of ₹37,500/- and 84,000/- each year respectively.
  2. Individual registered cardamom growers having a land holding size of 0.10 Ha to 8 Ha.
  3. Minimum area to be replanted under the programme is 0.10 Ha in a continuous block and the maximum area is limited to 2 Ha per beneficiary per year and a maximum of 8 Ha. in block year of 5 years from 2021-2026.The plant population is minimum 3000 Nos. per ha for closer planting [pure crop] and 1500 Nos in intercropped plantations.
  4. Replanting cycle is considered as 8 years and a second time benefit for the same area replanted by a beneficiary will be available only on completion of 8 years except on exclusive circumstances like natural calamities, devastating pest and disease attacks as jointly certified by a committee constituted by Board.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The applicants from Karnataka and other states having potential areas suitable for Small Cardamom cultivation are eligible to apply under the scheme.
  2. The applicants undertaking replanting/new planting as a pure crop using suckers will be given preference, subject to final inspection and recommendation by the designated officials.
