The scheme aims to motivate the growers to bring more area under irrigation by constructing water storage structures, rain water harvesting structures and installation of irrigation equipments for increasing the productivity and improving quality of large cardamom.

The scheme “Large Cardamom Irrigation Land Development: Irrigation / Water Storage Structures (Nos)” is a sub-scheme of the Integrated Scheme for Export Promotion and Quality Improvement in Spices, and Research & Development of Cardamom implemented by the Spice Board under the Department of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Commerce. The scheme aims to motivate growers to bring more area under irrigation by supporting the construction of water storage structures, rainwater harvesting systems, and the installation of irrigation equipment, thereby increasing the productivity and improving the quality of large cardamom.

Benefits
- 50 % of cost of construction subject to a maximum of ₹30,000 per unit for General Category and 75% subject to maximum of ₹45,000/- per unit for SC/ST.
- The minimum capacity of irrigation structure should be 25 cubic meter for availing maximum subsidy under the program. Any farmer who has availed this benefit earlier is not eligible to avail the benefit.
- Large cardamom growers having land holding size of 0.10 Ha to 8 Ha are eligible to avail this scheme.

Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant should be a grower of large cardamom located in Sikkim, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal, or other North Eastern States.
- The applicant should undertake irrigation or water storage construction activities only in permissible areas, ensuring that such constructions do not block the natural flow of water, including streams, and are not objectionable to the local community or concerned authorities.
- The applicant should ensure that the proposed work complies with all local regulations and environmental norms.
- The applicant should submit the application for inspection by the designated officials, who will conduct a final inspection and recommend only eligible cases for assistance.
- The applicant should allow verification by the Inspecting Officer, who must confirm that all conditions are fulfilled and no violations exist before recommending the case for sanction.
