About the Vahan Aksmat Sahay Scheme Scheme

Launched in 2020, the scheme "Vahan Aksmat Sahay Scheme" by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, aims to provide immediate medical assistance and financial support to victims of road traffic accidents to ensure timely treatment and reduce mortality rates. The scheme provides medical treatment packages ranging from ₹1,000/- to ₹45,000/- for various types of injuries and covers emergency medical procedures, surgeries, and hospitalization for accident victims. The applicant must be a victim of road traffic accident requiring immediate medical treatment and the treatment must be provided at empanelled hospitals under the scheme. The scheme is implemented by Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat and applications are accepted through participating hospitals where treatment is provided.

  • Simple Injury-I (Package 1): ₹1,000/- for treating simple wounds, injection Tetanus Vaccination, analgesic, antibiotics, general conditions check, cleaning, suturing and dressing
  • Simple Injury-II (Package 2): ₹2,500/- including face and scalp wounds, change of soiled cloth with disposable dress, intravenous line, multiple lacerated wounds suturing
  • Deglove Injury of Extremities (Package 3): ₹12,000/- for wound debridement in operation theatre under anaesthesia, intravenous line, intravenous antibiotics, remaining wounds suturing and inpatient treatment
  • Simple Fracture Without Anaesthesia (Package 4): ₹1,500/- for closed reduction, cleaning, suturing, dressing of wounds, fracture stabilization with splint
  • Closed Fracture Reduction Under Anaesthesia for First Fracture (Package 5): ₹4,000/- including closed fracture reduction under short general anaesthesia with plastering and inpatient treatment
  • Closed Fracture Reduction Under Anaesthesia for Additional Fracture (Package 6): ₹5,500/- for additional fractures with similar treatment as Package 5
  • Dislocation Reduction Under Anaesthesia (Package 7): ₹8,000/- for joint dislocation reduction under general anaesthesia and inpatient treatment
  • Open Reduction Internal Fixation-Small Bone (Package 8): ₹17,250/- including internal/external fixation of fracture in compound fractures, flap cover and inpatient treatment

  • Head Injury with Intensive Care Unit Surgical Intervention (Package 22): ₹25,000/- for operative management including burr hole surgery
  • Blood Transfusion (Package 23): ₹1,500/- per unit (maximum admissible 3 units)
  • Road Traffic Accident Injuries Associated with Burns Conservative Management (Package 24): ₹4,000/- for conservative management of burns
  • Intensive Care Unit Stay Other than Head Injury (Package 25): ₹4,000/- for non-head injury Intensive Care Unit care
  • Pelvic Injury-Conservative Management (Package 26): ₹20,000/- for non-operative management with pelvic belt and traction
  • Pelvic Injury-External Fixation with Implant (Package 27): ₹45,000/- for stabilization with external fixation and haemodynamic stabilization

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a victim of road traffic accident.
  • The applicant must require immediate medical treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.
  • The applicant must receive treatment at hospitals empanelled under the Vahan Aksmat Sahay Scheme.
  • The applicant must have Medico Legal Case registered for the accident.
  • The applicant must have police intimation with acknowledgment for the road traffic accident.

How to Apply for Vahan Aksmat Sahay Scheme

Application mode: Offline

Step 1: _Emergency Treatment at Empanelled Hospital_

In case of a road traffic accident, the victim should be immediately taken to the nearest empanelled hospital under the Vahan Aksmat Sahay Scheme for emergency medical treatment. The hospital will provide immediate medical care as per the severity of injuries.

Step 2: _Medico Legal Case Registration_

The hospital authorities will ensure that a Medico Legal Case is registered with the local police station as it is mandatory for all road traffic accident cases. The hospital will coordinate with the police for proper documentation of the accident and injuries.

Step 3: _Treatment Package Assessment_

The treating doctor will assess the nature and severity of injuries and determine the appropriate treatment package from the 27 available packages under the scheme. The treatment will be provided as per the standardized protocols defined for each package.

Step 4: _Documentation Collection_

The hospital staff will collect all required documents including Medico Legal Case register details, police intimation copy, pre and post-treatment photographs, medical records, investigation reports, and hospital bills as specified for the respective treatment package.

Step 5: _Cashless Treatment Provision_

The empanelled hospital will provide cashless treatment to the accident victim as per the approved package amount. No upfront payment is required from the patient or family members for the covered treatment under the scheme.

Step 6: _Claim Processing and Settlement_

The hospital will submit the claim along with all required documents to the scheme authorities for processing and settlement. The payment will be directly settled between the government and the empanelled hospital.

Step 7: _Discharge and Follow-up Care_

Upon completion of treatment, the patient will be discharged with proper discharge summary and follow-up instructions. Patients are advised to retain copies of all medical records and treatment documents for future reference and any follow-up care requirements.
